2K9! [Jan. 6th, 2009|07:41 pm]
It's 2009, hooray.

My journal updates have been rather sporadic and sparse, and I don't really have an excuse as to why. Apathy hasn't really set in, it's just I guess I've been busy with other things for the past few months or so. I finished off my temporary job at GameStop a few days ago. Despite working there for about 4 months the experience was ultimately quite fun and rewarding, and I made some friends along the way. If the job was anything other than impermanent and I was forced to push preorders, strategy guides, used games, and warranty plans it might have been a different story. Armed with honesty, charisma, and I'd like to think taste, I was able to answer the age old question of "Is this game any good?" with complete truthfulness, all without the potential backlash of losing my job!

Of course the real reason I took the job was to set into motion my Uber-Employment-Plan-Alpha. Over the summer I was offered a job by a good friend who I met through my Pet-sitting business many years ago. Without divulging too much information, this person is opening up their own Private Investigation company. Though I was/am completely intimidated by this person's years of experience, I of course said I would work for their company. The process of starting up the business would take awhile. Exams had to be taken, licenses had to be procured, equipment had to be collected, and bureaucracy had to be... bureaucracy. I still needed to make income while winding down my Pet-sitting business of 8 years, so GameStop seemed fitting as my friend is the manager. As it stands now our projected date for casework is February 7th. In a nutshell, it's my dreamjob and I'm very excited.

Other non-videogame things of interest in the last few months:

-Aced Film as Literature. Great class.

-My old computer broke. Got another old computer from another friend, (again).

-My BluRay collection is coming along nicely.

-My workout regimen and dieting has been successful for the last 4-5 months. I'm happy with the results. Liquid Snake Abs by this summer is still the goal, and it's a reasonable one now.

-My sister came to visit over the holidays, she'll be leaving January 9th to go back to Texas.

Outside of hanging out with my friends quite frequently, it's been a rather uneventful few months. But all that is about to change!

Let's hope it goes away. [Aug. 20th, 2008|10:30 am]
There's no such thing as silence for me anymore.

Tinnitus sucks.

I go to arcades quite frequently, but normally always wear ear protection, so this is pretty weird. Ear doctor said I should totally not have it at my young age.

I haven't posted in awhile, I forgot my email/passwords and I've been busy. I still have to throw up pics for the last update from FEBRUARY, then I'll be good to go.

Happy New Year!

I have been busy with a myriad of different things, and my computer died for the 382493284907th time.

Here is what has happened since the last post, in a nutshell:

Blade Runner: Final Cut (Blu Ray). I am still milking this bad boy for all it is worth.

I am Legend IMAX. First half of the movie was enjoyable, despite massive plot holes. The flick then began collapsing upon itself, plodding along only to deliver a terrible ending. Seeing an awesome bank robbery scene from The Dark Knight in IMAX was totally worth the price of admission however.

Christmas Eve @ Honda-Ya with family.

I was fortunate to see Shonnon and Johnus while they were in town. Mostly I was 'busy' with work. Here's to a great 2008! One that might see me getting closer to graduation!

Fall Update. [Nov. 5th, 2007|12:42 pm]
Not much going on as of late besides work and math. I did manage to snap some pics during the Week'O'Inferno though:

Eastern Promises. [Oct. 1st, 2007|03:20 pm]
Excellent Movie!

Viggo pretty much owned it up in this role.

In case you didn't know, it's about the Russian Mob and how one woman gets entangled with them. There's more obviously, but going in not knowing all that much will only be to your benefit!

When the movie opened, I immediately knew what was going to happen, but Cronenberg milked the tension for as long as he could. Good stuff. I've got to say I was expecting it to be quite violent, but I was still kinda surprised on numerous occasions.

Naomi Watts was as cute as ever but had an uncanny resemblance to Mona from WarioWare.

She had the bike and everything. The other auxiliary characters in the movie did a good job. Naomi Watts' character's drunken uncle being the standout.

Planting the seeds. Will the fruit grow?

Why is he pointing at his neck....?

...oh snap!

Overall, if you can stomach the violence, definitely check this flick out. The story is pretty simple but it's got some good twists and turns. All the performances are solid and as stated earlier there's a great sense of tension in many of the scenes.

End 'O Summer Recap. [Sep. 3rd, 2007|02:11 pm]
August pretty much means one thing: EVO! Slowly updating my entry with pictures/commentary over at http://drstormlocke.1up.com

While I was in Vegas, a huge group of us decided to get sloshed and see Superbad in the hotel theatre. I'm glad we did!

Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Jonah Hill and Michael Cera.

The plot of the movie is quite simple, and at first you just have these separate stories all going on at once. I was quite surprised when they were woven together to create an almost Tarantino'esque finale.

Bill Hader and Seth Rogen portray two terrifyingly terrific cops.

We went into the movie barely knowing anything except that the kid from Arrested Development was in it and we were laughing our collective asses off. Talking anymore about the flick would perhaps undermine the enjoyment you'll get out of it, because you should savor every bit of this crude, highly enjoyable and well written comedy.

It's August. [Aug. 5th, 2007|02:54 pm]
Goddamn. EVO West was a blast. I couldn't afford to go to Comic Con, which sucked, but at least I've finally paid off all my medical bills.

Huge recap of EVO West over @ my gaming related blog: http://drstormlocke.1up.com
